So I order fish for dinner tonight - and something about the bone structure and overall shape of the fish caught my attention :) I asked the waiter if he knew what fish species it was, assuming (hoping rather) it would be some exotic reef fish, considering the tropical waters that surround me...I should of asked him first if he could speak English :/ after 10 minutes of me asking questions and using hand signals unsuccessfully to come to any sort of conclusion, his wide eyes started to dry out and I drew him a little sketch to save us both the pain! He nodded in agreement and rattled some french word most likely for idiot, but Ill never know! So it turns out that Sharp - toothed Catfish is what I just paid 20 000 ariary for (R100, and the cheapest dish on the menu)...now had it come from Sterkfontein Dam, I might not have turned my nose at the thought, but I have seen people doing the most unusal of things in streams and any puddle of water or patch of soil fo that matter across the country....so where this barbel grew up and on what? Id shudder to think :P all I know is it sure beats the steak from this GT the locals caught on the south coast off of a wooden canoe :( not!
