So I picked my son up from the train yesterday and brought him - TopicsExpress

So I picked my son up from the train yesterday and brought him home for a couple days so he can visit family, and then I turned on my battery operated candle last night (thanks Tracey), and went to sleep after finishing up some work. I was not feeling up to par yesterday (emotionally) and couldnt understand why. When I awoke today, I had several Tags from my brothers best friends from childhood, and his dear Shauntell Lewis, and suddenly remembered, today is Dec. 27, exactly 15 years from the day my younger brother died tragically. The strange thing is our favorite music was Pink Floyd, and that is one of the gifts I got for Christmas this year - the full, new Floyd CD. I was listening to it all day yesterday. I had forgotten it was the day he died 15 years ago, as he is with me every day in spirit. My older brother, David, died on Dec. 6, 2007 of colon cancer at also, a young age. I remember we were all in Hospice when David was ill, and one night I came home and decided to help our family and write his obituary. When I wrote the very last word, the phone rang - he passed upon the last word. As with Mike, people who knew what happened to him (Eddie Gonzales) reached out to me, and my good friend Deirdre Lynn Brown Teachout drove with me to meet with with him in prison, but they had moved him to Upstate. I believe Laurieann Rafferty Massey drove with me later, in a car with no heat, to get the full story from Eddie on what really happened to Mike. Either way, we found out. The reason I write this is because I want everyone to understand why I celebrate Christmas with prayer and meditation for those I lost, and not tinsel and garland. We need to enjoy each other every day we are here. Life is a gift. And as my good friend Ken Luby Sr. always said, What if we were to die, only to find out this was heaven. Please take care of yourself, always, and find the beauty around you - accept people for who they are - and give of yourself without expecting anything in return. Most of all, be kind, as my brothers were. Thank you Rick Kingston for staying in touch with me and keeping Mike alive, and Mark Stevens, for your kind words and continual prayers. Here are my favorite photos, and I will be posting a Floyd Tune in honor of my brother. And to be grateful, the naming of my son, Micheal David, in retrospect, was meant to be.
