So, I picked up a hitchhiker today....He was an unassuming, small, rather spindley legged fellow...As I waited at the light to enter onto the freeway, he crawled haphazardly onto my front windshield..I watched, interested...what was he doing, just going about his business in such a carefree way...I was grateful that he was on the outside of my windshield, not the inside....then the light turned green and I watched....I accelorated slowly, fearing and yet hoping he would blow away, unhurt...But, he didnt! Instead....that lil fellow hunkered down....his spindley legs blew back, he lowered his small body and took the 60 mph wind head on... Man, I was distracted...I feared for his safety, his body seemed to small to absorb the resistance he was up against...He seemed so vulnerable. Oh, I tell ya, I couldnt get to my exit soon enough...as I exited off the freeway and stopped at a light, i watched him, to see......is he.....dead? But then, he fetched himself up swiftly and crawled upward toward the roof of my car and out of my sight...Wow.... Now, I am definately not a fan of spiders, in my house, or making their creepy webs across my path...but I have to admit...when I observe them..doing their lil spider thing..Im pretty impressed.. What dutiful and independent critters they are...busy, minding their own business...not judging or criticizing others, just making themselves happy.. The fortitude and willingness, albeit unintentional willingness, to make himself vulnerable, get right in face of life on lifes terms, hunker down and take the wind....then, get himself right back up, and continue on with his day, was very inspiring.... Just for today.....that lil guy, is my hero....
