So I picked up the trailer Saturday. The boarder was a breeze! My buddy Dave and his little girl Nova kept me entertained the whole drive keeping my mind off of all the possible scary boarder things that could happen! Thanks again Dave!!! I still need to take it to Canadian Tire and ICBC to have it inspected before I can get insurance. Pray the coupler lock wards off any potential thieves!! Today my buddy Curtis and I headed down to the trailer to install flashing underneath. Well we quickly realized that we needed to add some 2x3 under the inner rails to make the bottom flush with the outside trailer rails to attach the flashing. This meant pre-drilling. I had bought a general Dewalt bit set. It snapped on the fist drill. This was some beast steel!! Off to Rona (the closest). We found some stronger cobalt bits. Those lasted for half the holes and then snapped. Off to homedepot (across the city) to buy titanium! Now those worked like a charm! I came to a few conclusions today. I was almost in tears and complete deflation as the simplicity of the job I though we were going to be doing today turned into problem solving after problem solving. But no way was I going to cry the first day!!!!!! Curtis (with his years of teaching wisdom) reminded me....This is construction- problem solving to create. And he kept reminding me I wad building a house. He grounded me. He gave me hope. He guided. He taught. He let me do things knowing it would take longer. He was eager for me to learn. He then left me on my own. ALONE!! To drill and rip and drive and clamp and seal and snip and measure and square... ALONE!!! And my heart got brave! I believed in myself with more truth than I ever have. And for THAT I am thankful. For that I will cry! I also learned that as good as it felt to do it by myself, my hearts desire is to say look what WE built. We were created to be in community. To build together, to work and live together. I am so thankful for the friends that believe in this truth too. For that I will cry too. Happy Thanksgiving friends and family.
