So, I pitched something to The Guardian. They liked it, but alleged that they did not have the budget for a freelancer at this moment in time (because going under obv). I said, while it would be a small grievance to write it unpaid, so long as I remained in university, the exposure was enough and Id be happy to do it purely for the kudos of writing for them (lol). They couldnt let me do that though, because its not their policy to let writers be unpaid (interns are unpaid though obv). Now, they are using their staff writers to write their own version of the article I pitched, which will get infinitely more hits than mine, which is likely to be confined to some arcane corner of The Huffington Post. I rounded off the email exchange with some If I didnt laugh, Id cry line and the editor in question sent back, Thanks. Good luck! Bastard.
