So I read the Sound Off column of the DPA religiously every Tuesday to obtain a grasp of how the public feels about my county. Over the last several weeks there has been talk about our crime rate (Athens is the 2nd most dangerous city in TN) and our police force. People constantly complain the Athens is going downhill because of all the crime, and two statements later they complain about too many cop cars in the area. One of the most basic ways to keep crime down is to have an abundance of officers present to respond to calls of wrongdoing. So I propose this: either want the crime to stay up and reduce the presence of the law enforcement, or want the presence of the law and keep crime low. There is no possible way to have your cake and eat it too.
