So, I realize I have quite a diversity of people on my friends - TopicsExpress

So, I realize I have quite a diversity of people on my friends list. That being said, I present what I would consider both a challenge to you, and a Christmas/Yule/holiday gift to me, should you choose to accept. This challenge is simple. I want you to think of the one religion, spirituality, faith, or non-faith that makes you the MOST UNCOMFORTABLE. What just rubs you the wrong way? What do you have a distaste for, fear of, or just dont get? Got it? Good. Now go to religioustolerance.org/. I want you to spend *at minimum* 15 minutes OPENLY reading about that path- paying PARTICULAR attention to any definitions, or sections about Mistaken beliefs or Misconceptions. When I say openly, I mean you are reading with the intent of learning something more about this path. I mean you are trying to consciously take some of that fear or distaste and push it aside. Take your preconceived notions, or what you have been told or taught, and just set it aside. Anyone with strength in their faith should not be afraid of this. Here are some direct links to what I would consider commonly misunderstood paths to help you along: Satanism: religioustolerance.org/satanism.htm Atheism: religioustolerance.org/atheist.htm Islam: religioustolerance.org/islam.htm Agnosticism: religioustolerance.org/agnostic.htm Wicca: religioustolerance.org/witchcra.htm Vodou: religioustolerance.org/voodoo.htm So, what is the point of this exercise, and why is it important to me? The point is, you might be able to shed some of that uncomfortability, and live your life with a little less fear and a little more understanding. It doesnt mean you need to accept or convert or betray your own faith- it means you develop more tolerance and compassion for others, even if they may be different from you in some way. 15 minutes. Im only asking this just once, but if you find you learned something valuable, try it again tomorrow maybe? Try it with a different path you are just curious or have never heard of. If we all just spent 15 minutes each day learning a little something new about different paths, I think we could build a lot of bridges together. ...
