So I saw Interstellar the other day. Totally my kind of movie and I loved it. I just have one technical complaint about theaters in general. I paid extra at the scotiabank theatre in Vancouver to see (hear) it in Dolby Atmos, because nerd. Atmos is supposed to be a more detailed version of surround sound. I couldnt tell what was going on with it at all. They had the place so damn loud that nothing was intelligible. It was actually causing me pain. Im not a grumpy old man, Im a drummer (who has taken care of his ears) and an audio engineer. I spend my days dealing with sound. That was too loud. Loudness is more about perception than it is about actual volume. I guarantee that if they turned it down a bit it would *feel* even louder/more powerful. It would also allow the hard work that the mixer put in to shine through more. Im looking forward to watching this movie again at home on my own rig.
