So I see some people have been freaking out about the changes to the PTQ systems. I would to break it down a little for everyone since, it might not be fully understood. Were dropping down to 16 PTQs in entirety of North America, but now top 8 will all get invited to the PT. Surprisingly this works out to keep approximately the same amount of invites from the old system and will give some areas more. There are 200 hundred PTQs this season, with the new system we can have between 124 and 248 winners world wide. Every advanced store can run a P-PTQ so at least in this area there will be a lot of chances for making the R-PTQ. For players this means: 1) The PPTQs will be smaller than the PTQs of now, which equates to a slightly easier day. 2) The RPTQs only need you to make top 8 instead of winning outright. Im sure we all know someone whos made many top 8s but cant close it. 3)It lets you accomplish something big at your home store. No need to travel hours for a event and get nothing out of the day. For stores I feel this helps you guys out a bit: 1) You get a big event every 3 months that has no cost. I know scg IQs cost money and if they dont do well then your out a bit of cash, with this no upfront costs. 2) No need to compete over who gets the area PTQ, everyone gets to do their own thing and for the format that you know your players love. 3) Its a good chance to get people back into smaller shops. Someone who loses their favorite stores PPTQ will probably come to a different shop if the want to play in the RPTQ. 4)The big thing though is you are going to need L2s to run these events. I encourage our local store owners to talk with our L2s about staffing these events properly. Feel free to message me or other L2s if you need help with running these PPTQs. We can work together to make these events awesome. magic.wizards/en/articles/archive/new-path-pro-tour-2014-07-29
