So I stopped at Target over lunch today (the intent was a quick stop to pick up some produce and kombucha, which is an awful idea 2 days before Christmas Eve, I learned!) and the lady checking out in front of me had a cart FULL of fat free products, which I normally dont bat at eye at (I understand how brainwashed we all are dietitiancassie/unbrainwash-yourself/...) Regardless, I could not get her carton of FAT FREE Half & Half out of my mind! ((and since Im not going on my phone when Im in lines anymore—which you know if you read todays newsletter—I have more time to overthink things like this these days! :P) I did decide to not ask her if I could peek at the ingredients since she already seemed stressed with shoving all her fat free fake foods into bags. My thought process upon seeing the counterfeit carton was: Half & Half is supposed to be half cream and half milk. Even if was made with fat free/skim milk, then WHAT ON EARTH is the cream component? (hint: something probably not natural to this earth... because fat free cream is nonexistent as far as I know.) My next thoughts were: RED FLAG! FAKE FOOD! And then of course I wanted to save this innocent woman from the crime the Fat Free Half & Half was about to admit but Ive learned to keep my mouth shut about nutrition stuff unless asked. So of course I did my research when I got home (landolakes/product/15102/fat-free-half-half) and found out that (no surprise) the second ingredient in Fat Free Half and Half is CORN SYRUP. (when they remove delicious fat, something must always be added). Not to mention other nasty additives and flavors. So gross. So wrong. And another confirmation of why I need to keep doing what I do. #RantDone
