So I think we as martial arts coaches and teachers are failing - TopicsExpress

So I think we as martial arts coaches and teachers are failing because the general public tends to think that coaching Karate is not a job. I was told this earlier today. I kinda laughed and said "boy are you sadly mistaken". There is so much involved in running any martial arts school or program. If you want to have successful students you must volunteer alot of your time and give them your all. In most instances the job of a karate coach is way underpaid. If you have a school, your finances need to be covered, and product and uniforms equipment need to be ordered and in stock. Trying to teach required rank requirements, and still have time to teach self defense, sparring/kumite, kata, and bunkai as well as other programs and fitness. All that in the limited space and times allowed. Preparing for tests/exams/promotions, fights if the students compete or fight. Preparation for all of this all the while trying to keep focused with other life jobs and projects, keeping the students interested, focused and disciplined. Also it is the coaches or teachers job to lead by example and remain of good moral standard within their community so this Is often leading by example as well as setting examples to your students and peers. Trust me its a full time job with no better than less than part time pay.. But we do it because we love it and what we can do for others
