So I took our new dog Koda (Dakota was Kayleigh Marie Seagraves - TopicsExpress

So I took our new dog Koda (Dakota was Kayleigh Marie Seagraves first choice and hence his REAL name: she and Jake informed me... ) to the vet on Sunday night. Just to check on his worming, ask about his real age, check on his limping hind leg that he favors and finish his shots. The vet thought he was more like 9months to a year and settled on a year for his birthday. Which is more where I put him as well. His fecal turned out good except for some bacteria, so the put him on a broad spectrum dewormer/antibiotic one time dose. They sent him home with a painkiller/antiinflammatory for dogs for his tail and hip. As for his hind leg, he has a broken hip, the top of the pelvic socket where the ball of the femur sits is broke clean through. As it is a weight bearing fracture the vet sent the films to the board certified surgeon to evaluate. She thought it looked like a 4-6 week old injury, probably hit by a car, likely where his tail was injured so badly. I was freaking out, I had no money to pay for a 2-5000$ surgery!!! Jake and I had decided after talking with a few people to go ahead and let him heal naturally and deal with what may come of that, be it arthritis or whatnot. Then the vet called me late last night, and she said the surgeon opted for conservative treatment, recheck the xrays in a month and limit his activity and let it heal on its own since it was already remodeling. Yay! Poor pup. I am so glad he came into our lives. He has a bit of puppy chewing left in him, he chewed on kayleighs phone charger, and chewed an extension cord in half while plugged in and zapped himself!!! Little stinker... but otherwise he is learning his commands: sit he has down pat now, and stay, lie down and wait arent far behind. No evidence of shake catching on just yet. He sleeps cuddled up by my side or the girls when not regulated to his own bed. He is a mellow sweet loving dog that I hope we have the joy of him for years to come. He is being nice to Gypsi and not chasing her but he is very curious of the cat and she is avoiding him at all costs. But she is braving coming out around where he is finally.
