So, I totally dropped the ball on this but Ill update those of you who dont know yet. This past weekend Spartan Race finally came to my hometown, Washington, DC. For me, this was a huge deal for many reasons. Obviously, competing in my hometown is awesome because I can finally share the experience with all my friends who otherwise think Im just a nut who flies around the country to torture myself. I spend nearly half my weekends each year traveling to races, popping in and out of airports, sleeping in cheap hotels. Its rare I get to sleep in on a weekend or even wake up in my own bed. So waking up at home and getting to drive out to the course with a car full of friends on Saturday was a special experience. Also significant to me was the participation of 15 of my clients who I have been coaching for the past 11 weeks. These people are amazing and Im so proud of their progress and their determination. Spartan Race has been a major contributor to my business launch and I knew this weekend would play a huge role. If I won, it would verify my credibility as the expert in Obstacle Racing in the DC area. If I lost, especially to a local guy, well, that could have been devastating. Ive invested so much in my business, Elevate Interval Fitness (TrainAtElevate), so I felt a lot of pressure to perform at this event more than others. And I had all those friends to impress as well. Well, at least not disappoint, and each of them assumed I had to win, so anything less than that would have been a disappointment. For the most part they understand why I do this but I was stressed that I could have an off day or that the course might not be up to the standards that made me fall in love with obstacle racing in the first place. Fortunately for me, the stars aligned. Not only was the course muddy and fun, but I managed to pull away from McCauley Kraker and cruise to a comfortable victory. McCauley ran a great race and we battled for the first couple miles. Kevin Donoghue dug deep and waited for his break and managed to slip into third position just before the finish. Proud of my friend for getting onto the podium. Ive been soaking it in the past few days. Victories have been hard to come by this year. My fitness has been questionable all year long (maybe 80%) and the competition has gotten insanely tough. The athletes are better and better all the time. So I know my days near the top are numbered. But Im going to enjoy this now while it lasts. Thank you Spartan Race for bringing a race to my hometown that boosted both my confidence and my business. Thank you #FrogPerformance #HomeostasisElectrolytes and #OCRGear for equipping me with the things I need to perform on a daily basis and on race day. Thank you to my friends and family who continue to provide me the support I need to train, to travel and to race. Thank you to my clients who committed to my program, tried something new, and raced your butts off, then promoted Elevate for me all day afterward! Big thanks to everyone.
