So I try to keep things pretty light hearted and topical on FB but this topic was one I couldnt resist mentioning. Back in 2003, I was in a tough place in my life and I felt deep down that getting a dog was going to help snap me out of my rut. I immediately fell in love with a little boxer pup whom I named Cassius when my sister and I drove down to Amish country to look at him. He was seven weeks old and I fed him out of a bottle for the first few nights. In the past 11 years Cassius has been by my side as I landed my first real job, got fired from another, fell in and out of love and back in love again, moved a few times, got married along with several other life milestones. Seven months ago Katie and I found out she was expecting and as she grows closer and closer to giving birth his health continues to rapidly decline. It may sound corny, but I honestly believe he knows his job is over and he can go now. Its amazing how much love I have for him and I dont what I would have done on many long nights and days where I just needed a little old fashioned unconditional love. I have a terrible, inevitable decision to make in the next week or so. I was inspired by this article however and plan to have a going away party for him here soon cuz lord knows hes earned it. Watch the video at the end of it but fair warning you ARE GOING TO CRY if you are an animal lover. Thanks for listening to my rant, it was therapeutic.
