So I visited my 3rd open meeting today for a school assignment. This time it was an open Over-eaters Anonymous meeting. There was only one person there when I walked in. I told her I was there as part of a school assignment. She was ok with that. She held the meeting, stuck to the script and was an open book. She read the big book and stopped here and there with commentary and real life application. She treated me as if we had been friends for years. After visiting AA, NA and now OA all within the last 24 hours I can say that each meeting was powerful and encouraging. In fact, they felt very similar to biblical discipleship and Christian fellowship. The main difference was at the meetings, we never totally acknowledged who the higher power, i.e., the chain-breaker, deliverance-bringer, salvation-supplier, hope-heaper, forgiveness-giver, or grace-granter is or how we could know Him to be set free from the greater malady of indwelling sin that we all have. I want to tell you, His name is Jesus. He’ll set you free, from the inside out if you ask him to. He can heal hurts but he can also give grace to endure the hurt that he doesn’t remove. My hope is that you might be encouraged with this verse from the Bible; “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” 2 Corinthians 5:17. Hes not a black Jesus, or a white Jesus. Hes just Jesus.
