So I want to put this out there and need some feedback on this - TopicsExpress

So I want to put this out there and need some feedback on this idea that a rescue friend and I want to implement. We hear of so many negative things happening to dogs out there that are "saved", and by saved I mean taken out of a situation that is bad and sometimes taken to a situation that is quite worse and often ends up in neglect, abuse and sadly enough death. There are far too many self-absorbed individuals and groups out there for their own ego gratification. This is not a venue for "chest-beating, but rather for employing altruism and compassion and the willingness to be a part of the solution and not acerbating the problem. You either need to leave rescue or do it for the right reasons! Funds are requested and received and on one ever seem to ask the tough questions like: could you post receipts and estimates, could you post all medical documentation of diagnostics, could you post the prognosis, and see documentation of treatment plans. Why does no one ask? We need to ask. We need to see periodical updates with pictures. Where these dogs now? We have seen some very vocal and outspoken people ask for updates, diplomatically, and even being offered "rewards" for posting such information. The people to whom I am referring are heroes in my book and they do not have an agenda, like has been proposed by the rescues who refuse to acknowledge these requests. There has to be a way to follow these babies when they are "rescued". We need to be able to ask the tough questions without fear of being accused of causing drama or trouble. I am by nature not a confrontational person but we must have some form of accountability in rescue and it cannot be a "fox in a hen house" type of situation. If someone is intimidated by questions it immediately that makes them suspect in my book. We need a "watch-dog" group or page for our dogs! The thing that quite puzzles me the most is that certain groups take in inordinate amount of dogs. With so many reputable groups not doing intake due to the lack of fosters, where are these groups finding all of their fosters? What is happening to these dogs being taken in, donations collected and never to be heard from again. As you know I have often been on the receiving end of people "rescuing" dogs and then dumping them on me, they refuse to pay their bills even though sometimes three times that amount has been collected in donations. They come in intact and about 99% of them arrive heartworm positive. They then just outright abandoned their "saves" with us. Perfect example was one private "rescuer" collecting over seventeen thousand dollars for all the dogs she dumped on us and reluctantly after threatening them with exposure we received a paltry eight hundred dollars. I really am interested in input here. Please speak freely.
