So I want to share a bit of an embarrassing story about my most - TopicsExpress

So I want to share a bit of an embarrassing story about my most recent race. So, essentially I started training for the Chicago marathon back in June. I figured, awesome. This is going to be great. On August 3rd, my daughter was born. And Ive loved every minute of it. Of course, I wasnt able to train nearly as much. So, I essentially made a conscious decision that training was practically over and that I was just going to have to suck it up. Yea, right. Fast forward to the day before the race, I was getting nervous. I was going to run the race no matter what, I thought to myself. Then the other voice in my head said, but you dont want to get injured! Maybe its not a good idea. I went and picked up my race packet, less enthusiastic about the race than when I had started training. The night before the race, I couldnt sleep. I stayed up, read books, and got everything packed and ready to go for race day. Two alarms, what could go wrong? Thats what I thought. Right before going to sleep, with phone on charger, I thought to myself now would be a great time to update to the new iOS. Bad idea. Essentially the reset deleted the alarm settings, and I woke up on my own at 6:30am. The race was in 30 minutes! I freaked out, questioning if it was too late. Something kept telling me just to lace up and fly. Against all odds, I got dressed and left, speeding down three towns over to get to the race. I thought this was the dumbest thing ever, that there was not going to be a chance I could still get in. Something, perhaps faith, kept me going. I got lost at one point, asked an officer where to go, turned around found parking, and bolted to the starting line with my fuel pack and cell phone in hand. I sprinted across the bridge over the Fox River and miraculously, saw that the last wave of people were still getting through. It was 7:17am! How was this possible? Faith. It just worked out. Fast forward, I did great for most of the race but REALLY tightened up by mile 17. Had to stop half. Dozen times to really stretch and experienced some serious calf muscle spasms and tightness in the glutes. Somehow, against all odds, I managed to finish the race and still hit a decent time.
