So, I was born on the island of Boriken. After having spent almost my entire life here on Turtle Island, I am instructed by the Common Wealth of Puerto Rico, that I must obtain a new birth certificate, because my original one became invalid as of 9/11. Now what did I do to deserve this twist? Next year, our son will be marrying out of country, and I will need a passport to attend the wedding. It so happens that being the wonderful American citizen I tried to be years back has now cost me $1500.00 to drop the O on my name Roberto, in order to secure this document from the P.R. government. For years I signed my name on and off as Robert and not Roberto, so I could fit in with the American model. Guess what? We live and learn. For years, my logic that Roberto and Robert were basically the same names has bitten me in the ARSE. About 98% of my wallet ID state I am Robert A. Delgado, and some papers Roberto A. Delgado. Heres the kicker. In order to get a valid birth certificate from P.R., either the O must be dropped through a legal name change, or all my existing ID must have the O added in as a name change. The easiest route would be to have the O taken out of my name, since it is the least time consuming or complicated method to get through this mess. My mother must be turning over in her grave, pobresita. You have no idea how emotionally dreadful this is. Thursday my lawyer called me to tell me to tell me it was official at least on record, I am now Robert and not Roberto. So all my long time friends who were pissed I went from Bob to Roberto get set, because here comes Robert. Lol I had gone to our local Senator, and our Congressman to ward off this catastrophe, and they could not advocate on my behalf, a Purple Heart recipient combat wounded. The island of colonialized Puerto Rico had me by the cohones and would not budge.. Hi everyone, I would now like to introduce myself. My name is Robert, not Bob. To mi mama, I will always be Roberto. To my taino brothers and sister, Warayuti. To my Ramapough Lenape family, always Mountain Bear. Will the real Roberto please stand up. Wheeeeeeew! Keep it simple stupid
