So I was driving on a street in Lagos on the afternoon of Dec 31, 2014 and I saw a little boy, may be 10 year max, soaked in his own blood. Passersby were all looking at him helplessly (I couldnt take pictures because I myself was almost thrown into tears). I stopped and asked what happened. The boy broke his head after he fell (from his bicycle) inside a very deep gully. I then asked why nobody could take him to the hospital, and they all chorused theyre afraid the police might later come after them if the boy dies. The boy had lost so much blood, hence he went into coma... Then I asked one of them to follow me; we faced the nearest police station, reported the incident and returned to take the unconscious boy to the hospital. As God would have it, someone, in his 20s, who introduced himself as his brother suddenly joined us... Assuming I didnt volunteer to take the boy to the hospital or any of his relatives didnt show up, everyone around there would have deserted the boy; he probably would have died there all because of the fear of police... My Advice: Never join such ignorant people. The best thing to do in such situations is to split themselves into two: one group should take the boy to the hospital while the other should brief police about it... Well, the police are humans; and they need to remember that such can happen to their family members and friends also.
