So I was just at Petsmart and I ran into a couple ladies who had just purchased the cutest little blue pit bull. I, of course, went all mushy gushy because I love Pitties, especially blue or black pitties. Anyhow, they had just purchased this puppy yesterday from a backyard breeder in Escondido. So, after ooooohhhing and ahhhing over the cute little wiggle butt pup, I asked her if she planned in getting her fixed in the future. She said, oh, no. Never. I dont want to do that to her and maybe in a year I will get a boy blue pit and breed them too! I explained in a non confrontational way about pet over population, and about how chis and Pitts are some of THE MOST euthanized breeds in the country. I told her that she could have found a puppy exactly like this at OC Shelter or at a Rescue. I told her that the spay produce was very easy on the dogs, compared to giving birth! Went over lots of stuff, they were nice and they had no idea. I HOPE they decide to spay her. What I took away from this tonight: 1. Many people just dont know, they dont get it. They dont know why they need to spay and neuter. They have no idea that shelters kill dogs. So I need to always be patient and not judgmental because its possible that people just dont know. 2. I worry about that dogs future. Shes a purebred, beefy blue nose Pitt owned by some clueless ladies. (Nice, but CLUELESS.) its a recipe for a disaster to put a power breed like that into the hands of inexperience and uneducated humans. I hope everything turns out ok in the end. *please spay and neuter your pets. Please. Pretty please??
