So I went to a store on Boicdarc (and no it wasnt Stripes) this morning and observed a women with an iPhone use her EBT card to buy lottery tickets. Seriously. I watched the Deli clerk swipe her card and then put money in the machine from his register. I usually stay quiet but today I didnt. I spoke up. I said that was illegal and that card is for food only. The lady instantly pulled the no English habla espanol? card. So I tried the deli clerk. I have spoken to him dozens of times in the past and he acted like he didnt understand. no English habla Arabic? After about two minutes he got mad at me. Yeah HE got mad at ME for calling him out on what he was doing. As if I dont pay for this. Should I have just stayed quiet? Did I do the right thing by calling out fraud? Bonus: She had three young children with her. Should her EBT fraud also be seen as child negligence? She is spending her free food money on lottery tickets while she has 3 small children.
