So Im a little annoyed with UPS. Ive been waiting for my proof to come (a printed version of a book that is not yet ready for publishing) and I get a card in the mail stating that my package was undeliverable because they needed a suite/apartment number and that my package could be picked up at the UPS in Laurel. So I phoned them to ask why and they informed me that the delivery driver attempted a delivery last Thursday (no he didnt) and that he was unable to determine which unit the package was to go to so he returned it to the closest UPS location for pickup (no it isnt). I informed the very nice lady that I work from home so if a UPS truck attempted delivery on Thursday, I only needed look to my left to see the truck parked in front of my single family home and would have met him at the door. The very nice woman proceeded to inform me that the driver needed an apartment number and thats why he was unable to deliver my package. I asked her if she lives in a house. When she said yes I asked her if her single family home has an apartment number. She said no so I informed her that neither does mine. She then very kindly informed me that my package had been left at the most convenient UPS location for pickup before Nov. 14. I then informed her that the location she gave me is not local and in fact there were three UPS locations closer to my home that the driver could have left the package at. The UPS location she indicated is actually a considerable distance from my home. In fact it is more than 20 minutes away (40 if there is traffic which there always is). After a period of silence and tapping of a keyboard and a bit of dead air that to me indicated she was asking someone how to get the overly polite angry woman off her line, the very accommodating woman came back on and informed me that she could arrange for the driver to reattempt delivery. I told her that would be fine but now Im housebound for the entire day waiting in the unlikely event that my proof copy will actually be delivered. So far the UPS truck has driven past my home twice without stopping. Im not feeling optimistic.
