So, Im catching up on Top Chef Duels I had recorded. Watching the one where Art Smith is taking on Kevin Gillespie. In the dessert round, Smith makes a 12 layer chocolate cake just like my moms recipe and Gillespie makes a warm banana pudding similar to my Grannys with a meringue. All of the critics were blown away including southern chef, Hugh Acheson (who I is actually from Canada). Curtis Stone said hed never even had a warm banana pudding and that he thought the soft meringue was wrong. No, youre just from Australia, Curtis, where the food identity is Vegemite on toast. Anyway, I love it when food critics and southern chef posers get taken to school by real Southern chefs. If only I could step back in time and take them to my Grannys house for supper. :)
