So Im doing my final project in English on people with disabilities and It gets me thinking about the irony in derogatory words. Being called a nigger is just as inappropriate as being called a retard both of these are derogatory words and it enrages me that one is dealt with sometimes but no one bats an eye when a person says retard. People with disabilities fought so much to get the rights that they needed to live an indepent life and yet I hear kids in the hall all the time saying things like Oh my gosh, shes like such a retard. So perhaps for once we start using our brains and realize every person has struggles and has worked just as hard as the next person. No one deserves to be reminded of such a dark past.
