So Im finally home after being at the gallery from 2pm-8pm... The people that I know and that I didnt know who dropped by today to view the show helped me to see the show in a completely different light. Yes as curator and as a participating artist, the show idea and its essence was birthed by me, but 17 other artists adopted my baby, babysat, coddled, pampered and are helping to make the essence, power and meaning of the show to grow. There were not huge crowds of people to deal with at once today, so I was able to walk around and individually answer questions and tour individually with certain visitors as they walked in and looked at each piece one after the other. The passion, hurt and dismay for some was triumph, joy and possibility for others. I walked through the show with one Sista who smiled one minute, cried the next minute at the next painting, thought out loud about her Grandsons and her daily worries for their survival and then with raw emotion cheered and cried for hero kids not celebrated and the power and persistence of Generations of family who everyday still rise and get up to fight when everything in their eyesight tells them to just lay there and give up. We as a people never give up... We as artists never give up. Me personally... NEVER gives up. My passion for the show is not a passing fancy... Its in my soul. My experience feeling and seeing others reaction to my passion has made me even more determined. Then I come home and I see this picture below of George Zimmerman. Most after a day of triumph would not even pay him any mind let alone post his pic, but if this story and picture is fact: George Zimmerman Sells Trayvon Martin Painting for $30,000... Then it is indeed a mockery of the souls and hurts of our ancestors past, present and future... We must continue to create with our art. We must say something with our art. If we have the platform we must enlighten and touch the souls of as many people as we can with our art. We as a people must REVOLT with our art. And with this show, I am more determined than ever to be on the front line to make sure that... The Revolution Will Be Visualized.
