So, Im gigging tonight at Broadway Jazz Club from 9:30-1 with Wayne Hawkins, Bob Bowman, and Ryan J. Lee. Im not very good at hiding my emotions, and I have a shit poker face. Two days ago, a woman I love very much left this world, and I, like so many people who loved her (because everyone who ever met her loved her instantly and deeply,) am beside myself with grief. Music, crying, friends and booze are the only ways I know how to cope with loss and pain, and I would wager there will be copious amounts of all those things tonight. I make no apologies, and I will not try to be professional or stiff-upper-lippy, nor will I make jokes about struggling through the gig, etc. So, if you want to have a romantic evening at a jazz club, this may not be the best gig for you to come to. If you are sad, and need to be near friends who are also sad and need to talk about it or feel about it or need to share it, you are welcome. I will share the stage with anyone who has something that needs to be expressed. We can cope together. This is not a plea for people to come, and I am not using the loss of my friend to promote my show. I am sincerely saying that if you need a place to gather and share pain, you know where Ill be, with hugs and whiskey.
