So Im in American History, were getting towards the end of class & were getting closer the Civil War. Now, our professor asks for a stereotype you hear about black people. The class sits in silence, I cant help but get a smile drawn across my face. I say they like fried chicken? The most HARMLESS stereotype OF black people PERIOD. NOW, out of all the white kids who looked back at me, I heard one inparticularly say that I took his. NOW, the stereotype that my professor was LOOKING for was that black people were lazy. I responded w/ Ive heard that more w/ hispanics (which is something I happen to be mixed w/ ALONG with West African. This SAME kid says wow, thats a white person back there saying that. To where I reply Im actually mixed, thanks MAYBE not even loud enough for him to hear me. Ive been MANY things in my life but a racist isnt one of them. This generations so mixed up & diverse, it doesnt make much sense to be racist. I myself am a product of this generation & dont feel comfortable discussing these type of things in the presence of white people (as in not mixed at ALL w/ black OR hispanic) because i think the newer generation (not necessarily white people) but Americans on average are kind of ignorant & clueless as to whats going on. Am I wrong for this?
