So Im off to my 30-year high school reunion tonight, although Im not sure why. I didnt attend the 10-year or the 20-year event. I was as much of a non-entity as can be imagined. By todays standards I probably would have been diagnosed with low-level autism. I had zero social skills, and there was nothing that high school offered me that was of any interest whatsoever outside of Jazz Band. I had a miniscule core group of friends, most of whom were as disengaged as I was and none of whom I expect to see tonight. I expect the crowd will be mostly student council types (they seem the sort to organize these kinds of things), none of which ever crossed over into my insignificant clique and none whom Id recognize. Ive reunited with a few people here on facebook over the years though, most of which I was completely shocked to be remembered by. And it has been enjoyable to see those folks getting on with their lives, seeing their kids off to college, etc.. and finding out we were all just as insecure as one another. So I suspect it will be an evening of surprise remembrances, repeated awkward explanations as to why I dont have kids and having my wife sustain the social graces. And beer and shrimp tacos.
