So Im on a bus trip with 50 Sr citizens. The first movie I always show is Secondhand Lions. Probably top 5 all time flick for me. I always pause it at the Lion Chow scene to tell the story of one of the coolest guys I ever met, Rick Dial. Rick was a guy you met and your heart said hi again because you instantly felt like you knew him for years. I had the proveledge to be in a movie with Rick. I was a featured extra which is like getting an F+ Rick was in several movies (movies you have seen like Slingblade), and he treated ME like I was the star. The first words he ever said to me were yup, Dial like the soap and I instantly had a new buddy. I got to sit with Rick as he had sushi for the first time in his life. Phillip DeVona and I cherish every second of that hysterical, lovable meal to this day. Its hard to describe this fantastic man and his amazing heart, but check out these words from a Holllywood Film guy... I was screening The Last Ride a few weeks ago for some people in Los Angeles when Rick Dial appeared on the screen, an actress of note turned to me and said, “Who is the guy who is playing the bartender?”. I told her a little about Rick and she said, “He is such a great actor and there is something about him that lights up the entire room.” It is so true, Rick wore an aura of light — you just knew everything was going to be okay if he was around. The world just felt like it was a better place when Rick was there. Im so glad I got to be on his glow. We lost Rick shortly after the movie but I will never forget the way he made me feel.
