So Im planning on entering a profession that is over 90% white. Hopefully my presense in the field will help to bring some much needed diversity and new perspectives to the table and contribute to the betterment of neighborhoods and communities of color in whatever city I will end up working in. Being one of the few people of color in a field that is overwhelmingly white I feel it would be my responsibility to ensure that the voices and needs of people of color are met with the appropriate actions. When I tell people my plans on becoming an urban planner most people are completely unaware as to what a planner even does. I have big plans.
