So Im texting my best friend last night at around midnight and I get into bed and turn off the light and suddenly I hear something flying and then I feel it land on my leg. I yell and get out of bed and turn on the light and what do I see crawling up my leg but a Vespa crabro aka Wood Hornet or European Hornet. That sucker was 2 inches long! (this may be an exaggeration....I was excited) Well I am distressed by this so I shake it off my leg and the battle begins. Finally I kill it and get into bed and I hear a mousetrap trip. Ive been trying to catch this mouse for a week. I put cheese on the trap, it eats it without throwing the trap. I put peanut butter on the trap and it licks it off without throwing the trap. Well last night the peanut butter worked. I hope hes alone. Interestingly this is the first Mus musculus, House Mouse, that Ive ever seen. Before when I have caught mice, they were always Peromyscus leucopus, the White Footed Mouse. Havent had a mouse in year. Must be the colder weather bringing all the critters in.
