So Instagram exploded last night in Kuwait. One of the local gossip accounts I follow posted a picture of a famous International South American model and claimed her father is Kuwaiti. This was after a heated discussion on several past posts on the epidemic of Kuwaiti/Khaleeji male students who go off to college in the West and getting their girlfriends pregnant and suddenly leaving them and returning home. Well, turns out this girl, Denise Bidot, has been looking for her Kuwaiti father ever since she was old enough. He left her mother when he found out she was pregnant and she has never seen him. So naturally, she would like to find him. She has tried all venues including the Kuwaiti embassy. Seeing as how there was a sudden interest on her profile from arab-speaking people, she posted one of 2 pictures she has of her father in the hopes that someone would recognize him and find him. His name is Dhahawi Mubarak Dhahawi Al-Rasheedi. And this is when Instagram exploded. I wish there was a real slap button on that app. The poor girl was excited about the prospect of perhaps finally finding her father. Most of the posts on her profile were about how she should remove her pictures as she is shaming her family (shes a plus-size model with revealing pictures), or that her father is dead and she is disrespecting him, or how several pathetic men were telling her that they are her cousins and if she wants to find her father to direct message them. Or how she should embrace Islam as she was chosen and she should rejoice. And my favorite ones? Please remove your pictures and do not embarrass your father. He made a mistake and you should not post it on instagram. So basically she was being told that she was a mistake. I am posting a few pictures of her and the picture she posted of her father in the hopes that someone would find him and perhaps help her out. Note to Kuwaiti/Khaleeji men who abandoned girlfriends/ children and came running home as if nothing happened: I think your worst nightmares are about to come true. Shame on you all.
