So Ive been seeing a lot of Anti-islam posts on FB lateley. Despite being here so I can throw my irrelevant 2 cents into every subject I have avoided this one. The reasons I avoided it interest me. First, despite being critical of their beliefs I have a definite aversion to offending people of faith. I love my religous F&F and I generally think its best to respect everyone and religous people make it clear they tend to get offended rather easy. I think criticism is fair but I try to do it with kid gloves. Second, to be perfectly frank both sides of this particular debate tend to be people I avoid a bit because discussion or debate will have 0 effect. On one side we have my least favorite abrahamic faith (sorry christians you get silver, jews win the gold). However in my relatively limited experience muslims are great individuals. In most cases usually people from the islamic world match the idealized stereotype of immigrants that angry white guys disparigingly compare to their other stereotypes of immigrants, usually from latin american countries. As far as muslims as a faith I do find it to be even more proud of their backwards bronze age ideas than other people of the book and more hostile to free speech and other non-members going about their fun secular lives. Most christians and especialy jews really seperate themselves from the worst ideas and I dont seem to see muslims doing the same. On the other side the majority of anti-islam posters are the angriest of angry white guys and probably a few peole who are genuinly and probably understandably scared by ISIS and terrorism. Some of these angry white guys are my best friends in the world, most arent stupid but they seem to be the type of people who arent interested in any sort of eventual peace amongst peoples, understanding, listening, respecting the views and plights of others, or open to the possibiilty that we might all be able to find a way to get along at some point in the future, and even though I dont know them personally, these guys no doubt their isamic counterparts. I know one side sees made in the usa bombs falling on their children and the other side sees the heads of journalists being chopped off and the fiery words of war-mongering fundamentalists on CNN but really I do think there has to be a way forward for humanity that focuses on diplomacy and human brotherhood as opposed to the gore of bombs, guns, and knives. I know its not simple and there is hatred on all sides but Ill obviously plead with the islamic fundamentaists (I know they arent reading my FB) that they please live their own lives and practice their own faiths and try to convert by words, not violence. Im all for anyone who wants to to lead a pious life and pray and abstain but I want to party, read about science, have impure thoughts and act on them regularly. Not to mention other religous groups have their own style of piety, let them do their thing. Angry White Guys, your posts arent helping. For the most part they are dumb, uninformed, and Britain First are pretty much neo-nazis and the torch carriers for the old NF. If you know that and post, do what you want, but if you didnt know and think the ultra right is dumb and dangerous youve been sharing their posts on the reg. STOP IT!!!
