So Ive been thinking the past few weeks, and I have to be honest - TopicsExpress

So Ive been thinking the past few weeks, and I have to be honest with myself: I hate going to parties. Im kind of sensitive to noise, so most large gatherings feel overwhelmingly loud. They also require a considerable amount of acting--you have to put on your perfect face--and the acting can be exhausting, as well. Finally, I have to maintain a finely-tuned sleep schedule because of my circadian-rhythm disorder, and most parties go on past my bedtime, which is why I tend to fall asleep at parties. Yet I keep going, not because I enjoy large groups of people, but because I enjoy spending time with people one-on-one, and to meet the people that you spend time with one-on-one, you first have to meet them, and in our society, you meet people for the first time at parties. Except it never really works out that way, in that it doesnt matter if you have a great conversation at a party, you will never speak to that person again. Pretty much like my experience with dating. However, I love *giving* parties. For one, I dont like being by myself in my home--which is why Im on Facebook all the time, because its one way I can have people in my home. A party gets people into my home. But more importantly, it seems to be the way that American society says, Thank you for letting me be part of your life. And I always have a number of people for whom Im glad that they let me into their lives.
