So Ive been working nights to help accommodate all the contractors needing to work late trying to finish this building and get it turned over to the owners. Tonight is my last night. The only workers I have are a bunch of young guys setting up gym equipment in the wellness center. They told me they want to work really late. I gotta be up at 5 a.m. I told them Id call and get permission for them to stay, and just lock the one door I hadnt already when they leave. I took off to do some other chores, and I called my boss about the situation. He was O.K. with my leaving and having them lock up. When I got back to em.....there was a young woman holding a baby, and a 3 year old girl who was running around in there among the equipment. The weight off the stuff they were putting together concerned me. I said before I leave I need to tell you a story. When I was a young man I took an oilfield job on a mobile rig. These mobile rigs had really big tires and wheels. The shop mechanic had fixed one and it was leaning against the wall.....kinda like a lot of the stuff youre puttin together here. The shop mechanics wife showed up with their daughter......a little 3 yr. old. She was runnin around in there, and then she sat down on that wheel and tire. She weighed just enough to tip it over. It was a closed casket funeral. It still brings tears to my eyes when I think about it. I could tell by the mothers face.....she understood what I was trying to say.
