So John Young and his band Lifesigns are preparing to make a live DVD, ahead of working on their next studio album, and they are going the PledgeMusic route, a successful form of music crowdfunding, like Kickstarter, only for musicians exclusively. They have 79% of their funding, and 10 days left to make it. Im going to tell you now, this is an incredible band, with incredible, highly accessible progressive rock music, with more than a hint of their combined 80s pop pedigree, for those who worry that prog rock acts are all about the 60s/70s sounds and styles. Their eponymous release of 2013 had five tracks on it. You know those long, long songs that sound twice as long as they really are and make you wish you could get that part of your life back? Not this band. Not this album. These tracks go by in a shot and you wonder how the time got away from you. Put another way, this band created one of my top three favourite albums of 2013. I dont say that lightly. It also ranks in my top 25 list of the last twenty-odd years. Ill float you the link to my list in a minute, in case youve forgotten. What Im trying to say is, this is one of my favorite bands, and one of the best bands making music today. Both influenced by the best of 70s, 80s and 90s art and prog rock, and yet standing completely apart from it, I promise you you will not find their music anything less than beautiful and inspiring.
