So Kyonna, Doragon, Al, and I have been talking over an idea for Transgender Day of Remembrance. It has two parts to it. Part one, we have a big black sheet of paper hanging in the Commons (probably on that magnetic strip behind the tables). On it there will be some small paper umbrellas (as in the trans umbrella) in white, blue, and pink ( the trans pride flag colors). These umbrellas will have statistics about transphobic violence and transgender victims of violence. There will also be a small blurb explaining what Transgender Day of Remembrance is. Part two will have more of those little paper umbrellas left around in common areas (think of how the zines that are floating around have been distributed), except these umbrellas will say Bring me to the Commons on one side, and have the name of a trans victim of violence on the other side. The idea is that people can bring them to the Commons and tape them up with the rest of the umbrellas. Were banking on the curiosity factor to get people looking at the umbrellas, and then hoping the active engagement will have a more lasting impact. This is an example I made of what the umbrellas could look like. So, thoughts on this--should we move forward with it? Let me know! Also let me know if you want to help out in making this a reality.
