So Low in Nicaragua? Things just cost less in Nicaragua… Labor costs are low and so are construction costs and just about everything else… Small, very modest furnished local rentals start at about $250 a month. Health care and health insurance costs are about 1/5th of what you’d pay in the States. Car insurance costs are very low, too… and it’s a small country so you won’t spend much on gas to get anywhere you want to go. Many expats—living in towns like Granada, Leon, and San Juan del Sur—find they don’t even need a car. As for groceries… sure, you can buy your favorite imported brands… and pay more. But eat like a local and you’ll not only be healthier, but you’ll save money. Anything you could possibly want is produced locally, from exotic fruits and vegetables to free-range cattle and chicken to absolutely fresh, delicious seafood.
