So MPs are claiming £200,000 of taxpayers money to cover the cost of their energy bills. Now I read today Energy giants are scrapping discounts for millions of customers who pay their bills on time – just as prices shoot up. After 80mph gales swept southern Britain, leaving 500,000 homes without power, much of the electricity generated by the biggest wind farms was deemed surplus to the needs of the National Grid. So compensation payments to some of the Big Six energy companies, who are major investors in the on-shore wind industry. The handouts, known as constraint payments, totalled almost £1million over 24 hours. The total paid out to wind farm owners for unused electricity this year to £26million. Then to add to the pain of many The CBI come out with this statement. Taxpayers’ money should be used to help big firms pay their energy bills, the head of Britain’s top business group has claimed. John Cridland, director-general of the CBI, warned some firms risk being driven to the wall by rocketing energy costs. He called on Chancellor George Osborne to tackle the issue in next month’s autumn statement by announcing more assistance for those that are hit hardest. I wonder what Cameron and co will do. If they did give these Big Business help what would their middle class votes think of that. As Ted Heath once said he is not helping Lame Ducks
