So NärCon is obviously over! I had a really good time but I need to write (a long text) about the cosplay competition, because it was just horrible! So the first thing that happened was for all the competitors to gather backstage four hours before the competition, it was outside and it was really hot and no place to sit down except for the ground. I had the luck to find a chair later but not everyone had that luck, which I knew that a lot of others would have needed. Then there was a delay because the judges was not ready to do the prejudging and I could accept that, but everyone was standing out in the heat and about that time no one was informed about what was going. When it finally was time for the prejudging to start we only had like a minute or less to show the judges our work because of the delay and if you where in luck you could have a break. I had a 20 minute break, but we where supposed to get 50 minutes and a lot of people didnt get any break at all! I actually needed to take of my wings because they where hurting my back, but instead I went to buy some sandwiches and drinks for my friends who didnt get a break. I heard at that time that a lot of people had dropped out because it took to long and that there where people that wasnt allowed to enter because the judges ran out time for the prejudging. This is only what I heard from others so it may not be true, but Im not surprised if it is. Then the competition itself was delayed, which wasnt surprising at that point but when it finally started, it took to much time! All of the contestants was divided in four acts and between every act it was some skits and other entertainment and those where fun, but they took to long!! Im just tankful for being in the first act so I could go after that, but I feel so sorry for all the others that had to stand in line and wait in the sun for another hour or so. The volunteers was kind to give out water to everyone, but its not possible to survive on just that for those hours that was spent for the competition that day. I felt so bad afterwards and I was so tired, I had worn double corsets and a not so comfortable pair of wings that destroyed my back for to long. On top of that I had barley eaten anything since breakfast and the competition had taken up all my time for that day, and I know other cosplayers had it worse! What I want to say with this is that it shouldnt have to be this complicated or time consuming to be in a cosplay competition! It should be fun and you should be able to enjoy every moment of it, because that is what I love about competing. I love standing on stage and show of my cosplay and just have fun! The only thing I enjoyed was when I actually was on stage and that was tanks to the support and cheer from the audience! Närcon you need to do better next year!
