So Paco Erhard appointed me to list 10 books that influenced me a lot. I have a weird feeling that he already made me do it before but I cant prove it. This is an off-the-top-of-my-head list. In the next few days Im going to get horrified and add a few more that I absolutely must not have forgotten and how could I and all that. Cant be helped. So there: 1. Winnie the Pooh (Alan A Milne) - If you really want me to get poncy, it is the first Gestalt book Ive ever read but mainly, it forged my idea of whats lovely in this world and its people. 2. Anne of Greene Gables - Like many girls, it made me realise it is ok to be different, like many girls, it misled me to believe that being different can co-exist with living happily ever after. 3. The Catcher in the Rye (J. D. Salinger) - fixed that wrong impression. 4. The Paul Street Boys ( Ferenc Molnár. Haim Baram did you know he was originally called Ferenc Neumann and that he escaped the Nazis to the US during the war?) - On friendship, humanism, loyalty, betrayal and sadness. 5. From my Diary (in Hebrew. by Felicia Langer) - made me aware of the realities of the Israeli occupation in the west bank and gaza, and made me want to become a human rights lawyer, like the writer. 6. The Jaguars Smile - Salmans Rushdies impression of a journey in Sandinist Nicaragua was a brick in my construction as a political human, as well as: 7. Part of My Soul Went with Him - Winnie Mandelas memoir, written while Nelson Mandella was still in Prison. 8. The Sunflower, Sahar Khalife - I remember the physical sensation I has whule reading it, like looking in the mirror at a Palestinian women at the other end of it holding the other end of a pain wooven scarf. 8. From here to Eternity (James Jones) - the book that made me really hate armies, all armies. 9. The Womens Room (Marilyn French) beginners feminism, and a great read about a generation transformed. Like an early Mad Mam in California. 10. Dalia Rabikovitch - All Poems Until Now (on politics, on pain, on being a woman). Ill nominate a list shortly. x
