So Russell Valler its Day 5 in my music that means something to you challenge, and Matt Edmunds will be glad he wont have to eat his own anus, because my final choice is... Scritti Politti - The Perfect Way Despite being on my musical radar since their early singles Asylums in Jerusalem and The Sweetest Girl (which Madness later covered) from their first album, it wasnt until theyd released The Perfect Way (the 4th single on their second album) that I took notice of their quirky lyrics and highly produced sound. The more I listened the more I was intrigued by the sounds they came up with, using what was then cutting edge technology, and their odd lyrics referring to such diverse things as pharmacopeia, Immanuel Kant, Moto Guzi and Jean Paul Gaultier (all of those appear in just one song!). Scritti Politti are the only band I know of that I needed a dictionary and encyclopaedia beside me in order to begin to work out what they were talking about! Unfortunately, Scritti Politti is not a prolific act, having produced only 5 studio albums since their debut Songs to Remember in 1979, but what they do come up with is, according to their peers, without comparison, both musically and lyrically.
