So Ryan Kempf had the sharp idea of using internet to find an English guide to setting up the router, and I weaseled my way through the setup routine, and now there is high speed broadband internet in the hizzle, all without the help of NTT. For the record: The NTT tech guys who came out yesterday and ran the wires and hooked all the hardware up (basically the Japanese analogue of my brother Chuck Hartman) were flat-out AWESOME and completely efficient and wiped up the floor with little Swiffer cloths when they were done. And the NTT lady at the tech support center tried like hell to dumb down her technical Japanese to something that I could understand. The roadblock was at their English-language customer support center, where the young wossname on staff had obviously had lots of experience working in American customer service and pretty much didnt give a crap whether or not I had internet.
