So…SA Music appreciation moment Number 2 is boiling over right now. Just recently I began work on a DJ set that revisits my Station (The Durban Alternative Club) adventure. While sifting through the endless classics and working my way to the grunge/metal section of the evening, I clicked and dragged this ball buster into the playlist first. Why? I never saw Lithium live. Sad as that is and realising the 90s lacked internet (or at least the version we know it to be now), how did I find out about them? TV! My childhood internet as it were. When I saw the video for Schizoid I couldnt believe my eyes. These dudes were frikkin awesome and they were local. Hope had arrived! The naive musician in me finally saw a darker and still successful band make it to the top. As a young follower of alternative music and lover of all things TV, I embarked on a journey that saw me record this video on 3 separate occasions, on a mix VHS I use to have, all starting at various moments of the song. Yip, no rewinding TV back then…it was all about how quickly you could put the VHS in or run and hit the record on the Video Machine. Anyway…I bought their album Broken because I loved this song and the rest you can say is history. This song is still so cool to me and reminds of a very specific time in my life.
