So Supreme Court Justice Scalia gave a speech at a banquet where I work the other day... and although I did not stay to hear most of the speech- I did watch and listen to 5 minutes or so ... he (who was appointed by president reagan) mocked the presidential position itself- as "entirely powerless" and said, "...that that was why the founding fathers gave the president the power of veto" but I was REALLY interesting- in our political climate- to watch him break several ethical standards for judges - in front of a room of more than 300 attorneys- (who all absolutely KEW he was breaking the law by doing so) just in the few minutes I watched while he spoke specifically about the 2nd amendment- saying, "...the 2nd amendment will be narrowed"... and specifically using the example that, "... it will specify whether one needed the right to bear a shoulder rocket launcher- or not..." (indicating clearly that we did not need that right)- he went on to say this would be decided "as soon as we..." ( he said we )- "brought a case forward..." i tried to not be bothered or surprised or insulted by the fact that this man- who has - just in the past few months- personally dismantled our constitution and several of the inherent rights and protections it promises us- while he prides himself on being a "purist" regarding the constitution.... but when he spoke about his personal opinions and the rulings HE WAS GOING TO MAKE IN THE FUTURE- regarding 2nd amendment constitutional protections and issues that were not even before him yet- I HAD TO LEAVE AS IT MADE ME A LITTLE SICK. no one else seemed to notice or be bothered by what were obviously TOTALLY ILLEGAL STATEMENTS AND ACTIONS by one of the most powerful people in the world - a U.S. supreme court judge.
