So Thursday I got a call from Jenn early in the morning, she was running a fever of 101-103. Needlesss to say, she was panicked. With her port still in place, her protocol is that with a fever she is to be seen for blood cultures and antibiotics in case of a blood infection. We have been taking a chance in not flushing it monthly as it is not going to used again and as she did not get clearance for removal before going to school. While she took herself to the ER, I packed a quick bag and headed for Tallahassee. The hospital she went to treated her like any other college kid away from home. They ignored my phone call asking them to call her oncologist as well as Jenns request. No blood cultures done either. They sent her home telling her she had the flu. Thankfully that seems to be all it was. With the advice of her oncologist, I watched her for about 48 hours and she didnt seem to get any worse. I really will be happy when her port comes out in December.....then when she calls I can tell her to take some Tylenol and just sleep it off. Gas to get to Tallahassee: 120.00 Co-pay (which she didnt owe). 50.00 Prescriptions: 40.00 5 1/2 hour ride up, 2 days spent making sure she was okay, 5 1/2 hour ride home...... PRICELESS to this mom.
