So Wedsday night while leaving my shop I found this man sitting on the bench in front of The Star Academy next to my shop. It was a cold night if Winderians remember. Asked him what he was doing. Said he had nowhere to go. I asked him about the homeless shelter.. He said its only a Veterans home in Winder. Asked him if I can drive him anywhere.. Said no he would make it to Waffle House once the city goes to sleep. Asked if I could buy him a meal. Said no..he was okay. Thursday night about an hour after I opened.. He came in my shop. I told him to relax. He walked around looking at knives and gear. After Cassie Smith arrived to help me...he asked if he could lay on the couch. We said yes. A few minutes later...he started talking to us in and out with a few short stories in life. I then watched him remove a prosthetic leg. He said he wanted a nap. We let him sleep around 2 hours. Myron Petro came in we conducted business. Several local police officers stopped by through out the 2 hours.. He slept through it all. When we were closing he thanked us. Didnt want a ride , food or water. Not even a few dollars. Sad he wanted warmth and conversation plus a good nap. Sad nowhere to go for a shelter. Didnt want a thing.
