So... You are telling me.. Its easier for them to learn common core than it is to subtract the 1s column and then subtract the 10s column? It is now long addition to conclude subtraction? When I was in school.. Long division confused kids..(not me.). The idea that the way I learned being wrong because it cant be explained why it works is incorrect. I sat here inn45 seconds and came up with a very basic explanation of why it works, even when borrowing to subtract. This cannot really be a thing... Is it?
