So a couple of weeks ago I was poking around the web and came across an article about the Spadina Hotel being sold to developers. As many of us know, it used to be the home of the Cabana Room, a venue that was home to many great Toronto bands. I was in The Supreme Bagg Team back in those days, and we had many a fun night gigging there. Post Spadina Hotel days, it was home to a backpackers hostel. I thought, “wouldn’t it be cool to see if the stage is still there ? “ If so, I planned to reach out to as many Toronto musicians I was in touch with and get together for a last photo on stage. I reached out to the developers, who were very open minded to letting me enter the hotel and have a look to see if my idea was in fact viable. So in I went to have a look. Unfortunately, the place has been stripped back to the bare walls, with very little evidence that there once was a club there. I did however get a chance to take a few photos. Here’s the club in its heyday as well as now. Thanks to Hugh and Michael from Allied Properties for entertaining my hare brained scheme !
