So, a couple weeks ago, a popular HAES blogger was attacking me on Twitter for something I said concerning the emotional causes of weight gain and weight retention. Instead of responding to her [multiple] angry tweets on Twitter, I took the conversation off social media and to email, letting her know that, while we may come from different perspectives, both of us share the same goal: to help women learn to love themselves the way they are, something that is so desperately needed in this world. And, instead of picking battles with people who disagree on technicalities, we need to band together. No more fat shaming OR thin shaming. No more judging people based on their appearances or their size or their shape. This woman did not respond to my email. My mentor told me to pick what your highest priority is: is it to love or to be right? To have great relationships or to be right? To serve others and make a difference or to be right? Right looks different to every individual. We all have our own path. Next time someones knocking on yours, ask yourself: Would I rather be right right now, or would I rather make an impact/keep this relationship/be happy?
